The first piece of my series of work “Phantom Limbs”, which began with the physical and digital fragments I collected from Asia between 2023-2026.
The transparent phantom limbs that grow from these fragments are the projection of a 4D object into our three-dimensional world: a cross section in which the fragment’s past, present and future are revealed in a single moment. Each of them carries its own thickness of time, and each is also bound to my personal memory.
The taihu stone fragment comes from the park near my childhood home. Hundreds of years ago, this park was once a famous classical garden, filled with artificial hills made from taihu stones. On the phantom limb of the stone fragments are fossils of ancient marine organisms, mineral crystals, flowing lake water, ropes that are used to dredge the stones, myself as a child playing hide-and-seek among them, the dead fish I buried in the park,, and new shells formed after the stone dissolves and re-enter the ocean.
